Portia Lee James DeGeneres (also known as Portia de Rossi) is a known Australian and American model, actress, and an philanthropist. At the age of 15 she legally changed her name and adopted that Italian name "de Rossi" which was glamorous. She adopted the name "Portia" from Shakespeare's play The Merchant of Venice. Portia says that she believes this is the most courageous thing she's done. Her inner struggle with sexuality triggered her desire to alter her name.
